Mercy comes from a family of 9 children. Ever since her father and elder sister passed away, she lives in a small 2 room house on the outskirts of Nairobi near Gachie with her mother, 4 brothers, 3 elder sisters, and 5 nieces & nephews. She will be starting Class 2 (Grade 1) in January 2007 at North Highridge Primary School in Nairobi. Currently, Mercy’s mother works hard selling fruits which she buys from a rural market and sells near her home. The family is barely making ends meet, and so your help would come as a great relief, especially for the mother, who would be happy to see her youngest daughter attend school and eventually be able to contribute to sustaining the already large family. Our goal is to help Mercy’s dreams of becoming a lawyer come true, while at the same time contributing to educating a young Kenyan girl, something which is a challenge these days. Mercy has both her mother and older sisters as strong female role models, which gives her the radiant smile you can see above, however, she would do her family proud by becoming the first girl to continue her studies from primary to secondary, and hopefully to university. We are catching Mercy at a vulnerable time when she is just starting her life. We are lucky her mother sees the importance of basic education, and your help in the yearly funding of this effort would allow Mercy to confidently study without worrying about running out of funds or burdening the rest of the family. Mercy is energetic and happy and you can contribute to keeping her that way!
